Things to see and do: Bird and Wildlife Watching, Camping, Fishing, Nature Programs, Picnicking, Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing. The Ferry boats operate on regular schedules between Bayfield and LaPointe from April to December.

Big Bay State Park is located seven miles from the Ferry landing, this is a gorgeous family park. It features camping, picnicking, hiking along 9 trails in the park, fishing, swimming at two miles of sand beach, and interpretive programs. Big Bay State Park is a 60-site family campground with shower and an indoor group camp. There is an accessible beach boardwalk with a self-guided nature trail. Reservations are generally required, especially during July and August.

BIG BAY TOWN PARK - 715-747-3031  

This family park is located six miles from the Ferry landing.

It is an exciting time for the park, and users will find a new entrance, an organized parking area, a new picnic shelter with fireplace for day trippers and campers alike, a woodshed, 900 ft of new beach boardwalk, a new comfort station with a park attendant office, pay showers and flush toilets and new flush toilet bathroom at the far end of the campground. You will note all roads are now one way, including through the parking lot, so please pay attention to signage and parking directions.

There is new reconfigured numbering for 61 campsites, including the 23 new sites, 22 with electric, in the campground addition across the road. Also available are six new remote, tent only campsites, along the Lagoon Ridge Trail. A new handicap accessible boardwalk to Big Bay Beach is in the works.

Reservations are available online (see button below) with a credit card; few spaces are left unreserved each night for walk-ins. There is a picnic area, fishing, canoeing, swimming, and two miles of sand beach. From the top of the hill, the view is breath-taking, the best on the island. The long staircase heads down to the beach, over a bridge spanning the outlet for the inland lagoon. This park is owned and operated by the Town of LaPointe.

Please call the Town Hall at (715) 747-6913 for availability of the Rec Center building and shelter. Anyone wishing to use the Recreation Center Building must contact the Town Foreman to make arrangements for getting the Recreation Center key and for returning the key to the Foreman 715-747-6855. Please contact the Town Foreman at least one week before the event. This center is owned and operated by the Town of LaPointe.
